Kimberly Burnett

Therapist St George

Through my career as a therapist, I have been shown time and time again just how difficult our circumstances can become. Life is hard, and sometimes it can even feel too hard. However, no matter how trying the situation we may find ourselves in, I firmly believe that we have it within us to make it through. By understanding and applying key values in our lives, we can overcome our hardship and trauma, and gain understanding, strength, and even healing.

Life is hard and we do it anyway! My goal as a St George therapist is to help my clients learn to appreciate and apply these same life changing principles and values in their lives. I have seen the difference that they have made in the lives of other, real people, and I know that they can continue to make a difference in the lives of others. Life is hard, and will probably continue to be hard, but just because it is hard doesn’t mean that it can’t be wonderful at the same time. We can do hard things.

Burnett Counseling—Therapist St George: Key Values

In the places where I have lived and worked I have seen many groups and individuals overcome different trials and hardships. The following are personal insights that I gained while working for different organizations in Arizona and Utah:

The Importance of Connecting to Self and Others

Working for the Apache tribe in Whiteriver I gained insight into how the values of connecting with others and overcoming self-limiting beliefs has the potential to foster and strengthen individual growth and create a spirit of belongingness and connection.

The Power of Determination

At Project Reality, while helping people with addiction, I observed the heart and soul of determination and grit to rise above difficult life circumstances.

The Importance of an Open Heart

at LDS family services I learned the value of letting go of stigma and embracing wholeheartedness.

The Importance of an Open Mind

as a wilderness therapist I observed the power of letting go of a limiting mindset and embracing the reality of potential within.

The Power of Positive Perception and Intention

As a therapist for people with disabilities, in nursing facilities, and in-patient psychiatry, I witnessed people be able to use the hard to create beauty in their lives and the lives of those around them and in doing so I was inspired and uplifted.

Power of Exercise and Diet

In addition, my journey for health and wellness has helped me through some of my life challenges and sent me in the direction to add health and life coaching to my practice. I have learned through personal experience, and I believe in mind-body connection as a valuable part of treatment.

I’ve had the privilege to be shaped as a therapist through many opportunities in the field. It has been through these experiences that I have been drawn to  training and certification in holistic and trauma-based therapies. MBSR gives me the tools to help reduce the effects of stress on the body and increase grit and determination. ART, IFS and EMDR as therapeutic modalities give us evidenced based trauma treatment to reduce triggers, desensitize the body’s response to these triggers and reshape how we respond to life.

What you can expect as a result of receiving
St George Therapist services at Burnett Counseling:

Whether it’s a difficult life event, anxiety, fear or something else that is blocking you from healing, progressing, letting go, or simply becoming the person that you want to be, I would love to walk with you on this journey. I want to help you peel back the layers and  empower you to tap into what is already strong/good within you. You can transform weakness into strength,  work through fears, live a better life or whatever else your goals may be. My goal is to help you get there.

When meeting with me, you can expect an individualized personal experience as I listen to you and focus your treatment on what your needs and wants are. You can learn more about yourself and how your beliefs (conscious and subconscious) are affecting the way you see yourself and the world you live in. By meeting with me, you can rewire negative, limiting belief systems into mindsets focused on building positive growth. These will help to redefine yourself, your trauma, stress etc. and in the process uncover your potential within and boost you toward accomplishing other desired goals. Additionally, they will help you learn how to create acceptance and peace in your life through wholehearted connection and grit.

I can help you do this through the use of evidence-based practices, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing), ART (Accelerated Resolution Therapy), IFS (Internal Family Systems) and MBSR (Mind Body Stress Reduction). Psychoeducation and psychotherapy are mixed in as needed, while always using a client-centered, mindfulness-based, therapeutic approach.

We all struggle to some degree with hidden biases.  I do all I can to close the gaps and build cultural competence to reduce blind spots and create a safe space for all those I see. To me, all life is precious and has potential. I have worked with people from many different walks of life and cultures, and I am positive that no matter what differences we may have, we can find connection.

How to know that
Burnett Counseling is the
Therapist St George For you

Choosing the right therapist for you is important. One of the greatest indicators of therapeutic progress is having a trusting, therapeutic relationship with your counselor.

I offer a free, 20-minute intro session to help you get a feel for how our therapy St George sessions would go, so that you can see if I feel like a good fit for your therapist St George before we get started.

I do all I can to create a warm and inviting atmosphere and to be a safe, approachable person that you can feel comfortable with and trust to gently point out hard truths. As part of the therapeutic process, I might say some things that are difficult to hear in order to spark deeper introspection. St George Therapy can be difficult because it can bring up feelings and memories you’ve been packing away for understandable reasons.  I teach exercises and skills to help with coping. I also hold space for the difficult stuff so that you can gain a different relationship with it or let go of it and/or no longer be weighed down by it

How Many Therapy St George
Sessions Do I Need?

The length of time recommended for therapy St George sessions depends on your history, the amount of or weight of trauma and difficult experiences that have affected your life.

Typically for somebody that doesn’t have a lot of trauma or difficult life experiences who has had one specific trauma they would like to address using ART, they can expect positive results targeted on that specific event within one session. Depending on how significant those traumatic experiences are, they may need 3 to 5 sessions. With added severity, history and/or complexity, the amount of therapy St George needed will increase and is very individual. For a personalized estimation, you can come in to meet with Kimberly for an assessment and discuss treatment plan.
